Things to Avoid When Choosing an SEO Provider

by Jen Linnuste 4. November 2010 07:22

So you think choosing an Organic Search Engine Optimization provider is easy, well think again. SEO is complicated and it involves hundreds of variables and it is constantly changing. Proper SEO requires experience, patience, and the fine art of knowing how to make the search engines like your site, all while following the search engines' webmaster guidelines.

It is pretty easy for a good SEO provider to spot the others companies that are just looking to make a quick buck at your expense, but for a typical business owner, all SEO providers often seem to be the same. So you need to look closely at what you are really getting from them in your SEO package.

Below are some of the things you want to beware of when you:

Watch Out For Guaranteed Ranking

SEO providers do not own the search engines; therefore they can never guarantee a particular spot within the search engines. However they should be able to give you an estimate on how long it will take to see results for your particular keywords

Thirty Days Or Less

Not if it is organic rankings you are looking for. If anyone is telling you they can rank your website in 30 days or less, they should be eliminated as a potential provider. If they are providing you with on-page optimization as well as off-page then this feat is impossible if they are using "white hat" SEO techniques

Keywords are Not on Target

If you find your keywords are not hitting your target goals then it is probably because your SEO provider picked bad keyword/ phrases that sound good, but has little or no traffic. They do this because they are not competitive and easy to rank. A good SEO company will always show you all the information you need so that you may make an informed decision for your keywords

Cheap Prices

If an SEO company has unbelievable low prices then you are probably not getting much but a few on-page tweaks, this is by no means real SEO.

Unethical or "black hat" SEO techniques that are used by some SEO companies have left a bad taste in people’s mouths. Many claim the entire industry is all a scam. I can't blame them given how hard it is to find a good SEO company that will do exactly what they say they are going to do. The reality is that people get scammed everyday and bad SEO companies give false promises of quick ranking, unrealistic guarantees, bad keywords and very cheap pricing. So it is worth you taking your time to make sure that you have the right provider working on your businesses’ website.
